Thanks to AVMF supporters, scholarships are empowering the next generation of veterinary professionals. In a recent video, U.S. military veteran Thomas Payne, a Texas A&M DVM candidate (Class of 2027) and recipient of the 2024 AVMA/AVMF Veterinary Veterans Scholarship, shares how this support is helping him achieve his dream of becoming a veterinarian.
In 2024, AVMF awarded $1.2 million in scholarships and grants to 352 students. These opportunities, made possible by our supporters, allow future veterinary professionals to focus on their education and career paths—helping animals and strengthening the veterinary community for years to come.

“The greatest good is what we do for one another.” Mother Teresa summarized beautifully what this generous scholarship means to me. There are no perfect words to thank you enough for believing in me as I prepare to enter the world of veterinary medicine. By supporting me, I can in turn better support others creating a ripple effect that will persist for years to come. The AVMF is truly making a difference in the lives of so many. On behalf of myself and the others you have helped, thank you.”—Briana Blackwelder, 2024 Merck Animal Health Student Innovation Award Winner

“The field of veterinary medicine is an expensive but rewarding path to go down. The burden of debt that students face by attending veterinary school is large and can be a constant thought when thinking about schools to attend, jobs to take, and the career paths after. This scholarship helps to relieve a bit of that burden and allow me to focus more of my time and energy into school and furthering my education. I am extremely grateful for the opportunity Durvet and AVMF has provided me!”—Madison Cole, 2024 Durvet Animal Health Future Food Animal Veterinarian Scholarship recipient
