Welcome Dr. Rena Carlson, 2024-2025 Chair of the AVMF
AVMA Immediate Past President, Dr. Rena Carlson has been appointed as the new chair of the AVMF, a role she embraces with great enthusiasm. Dr. Carlson brings a wealth of experience and dedication to her new position.
Dr. Carlson’s journey in veterinary medicine began at Washington State University College of Veterinary Medicine, where she earned her DVM degree. Early in her career, she co-owned Alpine Animal Hospital in Pocatello, Idaho, for 25 years before selling the practice to associates. Currently, she works with National Veterinary Associates (NVA) as a general practice mentor. Residing in Idaho, Dr. Carlson enjoys a fulfilling personal life with her husband Brad, their two adult sons, two grandchildren and many animals including t dogs, , cats, and several laying hens.
As chair of the AVMF , Dr. Carlson is particularly passionate about contributing to the Greatest Needs fund, which allows the foundation to allocate resources where they are most needed. Her commitment to the foundation is evidenced by her many years as a donor and her participation in the Leadership Guild since its inception.
“This year has been remarkable as our AVMF REACH Program™ has grown tremendously with more than 600 applications and $600,000 awarded in grants within the first half of the year. This is a WONDERFUL resource for AVMA members who are in practice, granting up to $2,000 per case for clients who have financial need.”
In light of ongoing natural disasters, including fires, floods, and hurricanes, Dr. Carlson emphasizes the importance of the AVMF Disaster Relief and Reimbursement Grants available to AVMA members and the broader veterinary community.
