2023 AVMA/AVMF 2nd Opportunity Summer Research Stipend
Overview
The AVMA/AVMF 2nd Opportunity Summer Research Stipend is intended to provide support for currently enrolled veterinary students who have previously conducted a summer research project and are seeking to gain a second summer of research experience. Five $6,000 awards have been provided in 2023.

“I am truly grateful to the AVMA and AVMF for the opportunity to pursue my project on developing reference intervals for blood lipids and lipoproteins in cockatiels this summer. Last summer, I had the chance to work on pharmacodynamics of sedative combinations in Great Horned Owls. This scholarship not only enables me to grow as a researcher, but to explore my passions for avian health and science communication in new ways.”

“I will continue to investigate mechanisms behind impaired fracture healing in Down Syndrome mice. This work is very exciting and rewarding as it is an opportunity to impact paradigms of fracture treatment in people with Down Syndrome and apply new understanding of impaired fracture healing to fracture nonunion in canine patients. This scholarship will help me to further refine my career goals and support my development as a future veterinary clinician scientist.”
